Loose Parts Play Workshop

Explore the fascinating world of loose parts; a theory of how not to cheat children, first developed by landscape architect Simon Nicholson in 1971.
What do people mean when they talk about loose parts?
It’s been a part of playwork practice for many years, probably since the first adventure playgrounds were established in the mid twentieth century before ‘loose parts’ had a name and a theory.
The popularity of loose parts is growing, more play settings, playschemes, early years, schools and other professions working with children are taking it up since recognising the benefits loose parts play has for children’s cognitive, physical and emotional development. PLUS it’s FUN!
This interactive 2 hour workshop is taking place at Pitsmoor Adventure Playground. Part of the workshop will be outdoors so we ask that you wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear.
The workshop will cover
- Understanding the theory of loose parts
- Benefits of loose parts play for children
- Bringing loose parts resources into your play environment
- The playworker / adult role
- Managing risk
