On 16th Dec, 14 people working, volunteering or otherwise passionate about children’s play from across Sheffield gathered at Adventures for the Connecting Through Play quarterly catch up.

Over tea and mince pies we shared what we are all working on and took the opportunity to talk about the issues impacting our work and our communities. At this gathering we talked a lot about how staffed play spaces, from permanent community projects to pop-up estate sessions, are crucial to creating safe spaces. These safe spaces then have all kinds of potential for bringing families and communities together and linking people up to support and advice. But the magic is the play and the focus on children’s play first and foremost. That’s what creates and holds the safe space.

We’ve made a word cloud from our meeting notes!

Connecting Through Play gatherings happen every 3 months at different places around the city. If you volunteer or work with children at play come along! The next gathering will be in February. Keep an eye on our website for more information.

We hope you are warm and cosy where you are and that you have a great Christmas break.
