A message from Childcare Planning team at Sheffield City Council

Dear Colleague,

Wraparound Programme Funding, Completed Expression of Interest Form required by 16 May 2024.

The Government recognised in the Childcare Reforms 2023 the importance of wraparound childcare to support working families, so set out a national plan to ensure all parents and carers of primary school-aged children who need it should be able to access term time childcare in their local area from 8am-6pm.

For none school settings please see:

The Local Authority has been allocated programme funding for supporting the initial setup or expansion of wraparound provision associated with primary school children. The Governments agenda is that all parents who need it must be serviced by some form of wraparound care with every school having a responsibility to offer provision whether they deliver that themselves, or through a private provider on site or through arrangements with other local providers and childminders.

To support Sheffield’s Wraparound Delivery Strategy, you will get a telephone call from a Local Authority Officer requesting to talk with you about your existing before and after school care in connection with the Programme and to let you know about the funding to support schools. The DfE’s expectation being that the majority of provision will be set up in time to start operating in September 2024.

Schools and childcare providers who wish to set up new or expand their existing provision can submit their ‘Expressions of Interest’ for the Wraparound funding now. The funding can used to support running costs such as staffing, training, minibus hire, and resources for before or after school childcare provision or both.

Those schools and providers wishing to secure some funding should submit their completed Expression of Interest form attached and return it to the Childcareplanning Team by close of play on 16 May 2024.

Look out for further communications very soon with information about other (non-financial) support that will be available for those setting up new wraparound places.

In the meantime, to help providers with involvement in the wraparound childcare programme there are support materials such as good practice guidance, case studies, upcoming events and more on the Hub for providers here Childcare Works –
