Playwork training in Sheffield has been given a welcome boost and a massive seal of approval from Sheffield’s worshipful Lord Mayor Sioned-Mair Richard’s.

Parent’s,volunteers and local workers from Sharrow, Manor, Woodthorpe, Wybourn and the Pitsmoor areas of the city, have been busy throughout the autumnal period learning how, as adults they can provide more positive play experiences for children and young people on the Discovering Playwork courses.

The local groups supported by the Sheffield Play Partnership and Sheffield City Council’s Community Youth Services learned all about the importance of Playwork and how children play and why play is vital on children’s lives . They examined good places to play, creative and messy play and health and safety around play.

The Playwork courses form part of a new and exciting drive to train up local people to improve and transform Sheffield’s local play offer.

“Play projects in the city are delighted that training courses are now available again that can equip learners with the knowledge and practical skills to help promote quality and inclusive play spaces snd opportunities as well as helping  families and communities.
The last 10 years has been extremely challenging for training new playworkers, due to their being limited affordable learning opportunities available. In our ever increasingly challenging world courses have not always been fit for purpose too and this new suite of Playwork courses redresses this and has proven to be highly effective and successful.” Patrick Meleady Pitsmoor Adventure Playground CIO Manager

“It is absolutely super that we have so many local people benefitting from the discovering Playwork courses I am delighted to be able to present everyone with certificates of learning,” Lord Mayor of Sheffield Councillor Sioned-Mair Richard’s
